Outdoor pools set to open for summer

-

Outdoor pools at Drouin, Neerim South, Rawson, Thorpdale and Trafalgar will open on Friday.

Warragul’s outdoor pool at the Warragul Leisure Centre has an extended opening season from November 1 to April 30 because of its temperature control functions.

The other five outdoor pools in Baw Baw Shire are open from December 1 to March 31.

Entry fees for pools at Drouin, Trafalgar, Thorpdale, Neerim South and Rawson are:

Season memberships – adult $96.80, concession $77.30 and family $170;

Monthly memberships – adult $28.60, concession $22.90 and family $50.50;

Casual swims - adult $5.40, concession $3.20 and family $14.40.

The outdoor pools are managed by YMCA on behalf of council, and are open when the temperature is forecast to reach or exceed 25 degrees Celsius, except Rawson and Warragul which are not weather dependent.

Open days are planned one week in advance, and revised daily, using the Warragul forecast data provided by the Bureau of Meteorology.

Pools may close prior to or during thunderstorm activity or in extreme weather conditions.

All pools will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Mayor Joe Gauci encouraged community members who have not yet visited the redeveloped Warragul Leisure Centre to do so and make the most of the modern facilities.

“It’s been over a year since the redevelopment and we have had an overwhelmingly positive reaction from our community. Kids love the special splash and play area, and the accessible hydrotherapy pool has received a lot of praise too.

“Morning swimmers have already been making good use of the 50-metre outdoor pool and we expect it to get busier as the weather continues to warm up,” he said.
