Division 1

Buln Buln (6-287) def. Western Park (169): Few people asked at the start of the season would have predicted Western Park would struggle in the early part of the summer, but the Warriors loss to Buln Buln to the tune of 118 runs sees them sitting in fifth position on the division one table nearing the halfway point of the home and away season.

Having watched Jeff Walsh blast an amazing century last weekend to rescue the Buln innings, the Warriors would no doubt have remained confident of claiming victory despite losing three early scalps, but there would be no successful mimicking from Western Park with only Sam Batson able to really punish the Buln bowlers.

The key wicket of the day was that of Matthew Wakefield – with the top order star enduring his first failure of the season – and Jackson Noonan claimed four other wickets across the afternoon to be the pick of the bowlers. His eventual haul of 5-48 (the seamer’s second five-wicket haul for Buln) saw the Warriors dismissed for just 169 in the 60th over, with Batson making an even 50.

He found some support from Sam McMillan (34) and Sam Russell (42), but Western Park could do little in response to the Buln bowlers, and their third loss of the campaign sees them heading into December in a form slump of sorts.

Buln on the other hand are a game clear in second position on the table, and quickly putting the horrors of last season behind them.
