Buln fall short despite half century
Warriors bat on
Western Park (191) def. Iona (95): Having already claimed first innings points on day one of proceedings, Western Park’s lower order took advantage of the lack of ‘venom’ in the attack and enjoyed some quality time in the middle on their way to a 96-run win over Iona.
Luke Ferguson was wayward in the opening over of the day – sending down multiple wides – but claimed the early wicket of Sam Fennell to briefly raise hopes of a push for a reverse outright win.
However, Kristian Thompson (a patient 37) and Oscar Sheehan (a spirited 23) combined for an invaluable 60-run ninth wicket stand which well and truly killed the contest.
They were eventually dismissed for 191 in the 60th over, with Thompson the last man dismissed.
Panthers woes continue
Neerim District (150) def. Yarragon (62 and 246):
Yarragon’s batting woes continued at the weekend against Neerim District, with the Panthers slumping to another disappointing loss – this time to the tune of 88 runs.
In pursuit of the Stags’ total of 150, Yarragon began poorly against some tidy bowling from Kody Wilson and Matthew Kelliher, and the malaise affected the entire batting line-up.
Only John Buckland (11) and Adam Mazza (17) were able to make it to double figures, with Wilson proving far too consistent and far too quick for the Panthers.
He snared the impressive figures of 6-21 from his 15 overs, while Cameron Law (3-3 from just 1.5 overs) chimed in with some late scalps to bundle out the tail.
Sent in for a second time, Yarragon fared slightly better, making their way to 2-46 from the remaining 37 overs.
