Division 3

- By Sam Laffy

Jindivick (224) def. Buln Buln (166): In his first knock for the club, Dean Hendrikse struck an excellent half-century, but even his dashing innings wasn’t enough for Buln Buln to defeat Jindivick as the Lyrebirds slumped to a 58-run loss.

Chasing 224, Buln lost three early wickets but recovered thanks to a 54-run stand between Hendrikse and Max Kelly. The pair looked comfortable at the crease – but the removal of both batsmen by Anthony Maguire (who snared 2-35 off 13 overs) saw the game swing in Jindivick’s favour.

Hendrikse finished with 51 and Kelly 28, but they would have been disappointed to not punish the bowlers more.

Pyle (3-20 from 11) was also effective with the ball, and the duo’s efforts helped to dismiss Buln for 166 in the 63rd over.

Titans break through

Garfield-Tynong (133 and 4-36) def. Longwarry (78):

Garfield-Tynong broke through for their second win of the season on Saturday, with Craig Cousin proving far too good for the Longwarry batsmen in a devastating spell of bowling.

The Crows would have been confident of chasing down the required target of 133 at the start of play, but Glen Johnston (2-19 off 10.2) and Cousin (5-29 from 16) ensured that none of the batsmen were ever able to settle at the crease.

Joel Kilday struck 20 in the middle order in a fightback of sorts, but he lacked effective support from his teammates, and after 39.2 overs Longwarry were dismissed for 78.

Batting a second time, the Titans made their way to 4-36, with Gerard Shields remaining unbeaten on 13.

Austin Van Strijp claimed two wickets for the Crows in his first outing in season 2017-18.
