Looking for parks

-

So we are to have a nice parking ticket for Christmas this year. Parking in Warragul and Drouin has long been a problem which has been put on the back burner for too long.

New housing estates are circling the area like vultures. The powers to be ignore the fact that more houses means more people, means more need to infrastructure.

The problem is that you come into town to maybe see a movie, hairdresser or other business. This could take more than two hours. The three hour car park is full, and all day car park is full. Where to go? Hmmm.

Round and round looking for somewhere to park. Two hours will not be long enough. You miss the start of the movie and you are late for the hairdresser.

When you find something you worry about whether you will have a parking ticket when you return if you are over time. Expensive movie or haircut. Perhaps you would have liked to have lunch or a coffee. No, you can’t do that because you must get back to the car.

Can’t shift the car because there is no where else to go everywhere is full. This will affect local businesses in the town, because people will not shop where they can’t find a park. They I’ll drift away to other shopping areas where they can park all day without worrying. Some people have already told me they are doing this.

If you are unable to walk a long distance or have a disability, where do you go if there is disabled car park and someone is already in it. Can’t carry the shopping several blocks away. No wonder shopping trolleys are left all over the place and not returned.

Well may we get a parking ticket, but it will be to the detriment of the local businesses and the shire. Bev Michelmore, Warragul
