Lions give back
Drouin Lions Club have given back for Christmas, with president Erika Wassenberg and Lion Tony Kelly donating $2000 to Baw Baw Combined Churches Food Relief.
Drouin Lions Club president Erika Wassenberg said the club were proud to give back.
“We know this time of year gets very hard for a lot of families in our area,” she said.
“We are so lucky and proud to be able, because of the support from the public and our Garden and Home Expo to be able to disburse funds back to those in need.”
Baw Baw Combined Churches Food Relief provide food aid and support for families and individuals in need in the Baw Baw Shire.
With the assistance of local organisations they receive food and financial support to enable Food Relief to operate.
They also operate an Opportunity Shop in Pearse Street in Warrragul to raise funds towards their operating costs. Food Relief and the Op Shop is staffed entirely by friendly local volunteers.
St Vincent De Paul in Drouin received a cheque from Drouin Lions Club to go towards Christmas hampers for this year for those in need. The cheque was presented by Lion Glynn Goss to Isabell McLean from St Vincent De Paul, who thanked the Club for their donation of $1000.
A visit by Drouin Lions Club members to Longwarry and District Lions Club 15th Charter Anniversary last week saw a cheque presented to their club for $2500 to go towards their outstanding contribution in working on their Emergency Food Relief Program that covers such a wide kilometre radius.
They are a small club but work very hard, hands on, and are very grateful for any financial support they can get to keep this program running.
