Camera club crowns image of year

Warragul Ranges Probus Club

The November general meeting of the Warragul Ranges Probus Club was well attended by members with a small number of apologies.

The club welcomed Pat and Kay Dorian to our club and trust they will enjoy activities the club provides.

If any members wish to try a new activity please contact the co-ordinator of that activity. The club welcome all enquiries.

The guest speaker was Evelyn Lilley from Women on Farms, who spoke of their many and varied interests and activities that women (not necessaril­y from the farming community) gather together and discuss the pros and cons of their farming life.

Women of all ages attend with one women in her eighties still actively involved.

Monthly farm visits have been conducted with visits to a horse rehabilita­tion facility at Clyde, Radfords Meats abattoirs, celery, asparagus, beef farms, deer and venison farm at Trafalgar and an apple and pear orchard.

The women have also learned tractor accident prevention, tractor maintenanc­e and also about fencing - both electric and traditiona­l post and wire.

Beth Sibson thanked Evelyn for an interestin­g and informativ­e talk about life on farms.

The Christmas luncheon is on December 14 at the Warragul Country Club, 11.30am for a noon start.

Dates for your 2018 diary: Thursday, February 1 - Picnic in the Park (Civic Park). Bring a salad or sweet, meat provided.

Thursday, February 8 - Visit to Circus Oz, Cafe Vic and National Gallery Victoria. Cost $55 per person includes bus, morning tea and a light two course lunch.

The next meeting is on January 25, 2018 at Warragul Country Club at 10am.

Forty-three members and the five visiting judges saw Warragul Camera Club’s image of the year at its latest meeting.

The club made its annual competitio­n trophy presentati­ons, with a guest judging panel from Pakenham Camera Club consisting of Linda Brown, Maria Bastin and Jenni Tanner.

Darryl Whitaker and Darren Spargo judged and presented the club’s photobook competitio­n.

The clubs’ members provided a sumptuous buffet meal for all to enjoy prior to the prize giving. Annual Landscape Trophy winners were: Best black and white print: David Barton; Best colour print: David Woodcock; Best experiment­al image: Linda Keagle; Best PDI: Adrienne Cornish; Best Landscape Image: overall Adrienne Cornish.

The annual black and white trophy winner was Bruce Langdon.

PDI and print of the year 2017 trophy winners were:

Best A grade Creative Image: Ruth Burleigh; Best A grade PDI: Terrie O’Dwyer; Best A grade Print: David Woodcock; Print of the year B grade: Peter Dwyer; Creative/Experiment­al image of the year B grade: Nat Peters; PDI image of the year B grade: Carol Monson.

The monthly competitio­n was for Photobook: 1st Laurie Snowball, 2nd Bruce Langdon.

The club’s image of the year competitio­n trophy winners were:

Prints A grade: 1st David Woodcock, 2nd Marg Tylee. Prints B grade: 1st Peter Dwyer, 2nd Cathy Tisdale. Digital A grade: 1st Terrie O’Dwyer, 2nd David Woodcock. Digital B grade: 1st Carol Monson, 2nd Nat Peters. Creative A grade: 1st Ruth Burleigh, 2nd Linda Keagle. Creative B grade: 1st Nat Peters, 2nd Irene Coates.

On Saturday, December 9, a “Studio Experience” workshop for portrait and still life was held for club members at Photograph­y Studies College in Southbank. It was held in preparatio­n for the Club’s 2018 Syllabus and National competitio­n in May.

The club’s next scheduled photograph­y outing will be in February 2018 when it visits the City of Ballarat. Meetings are held the first Monday each month at the Mawarra Workshops. Visitors are welcome.
