Tom awarded young achiever

Neerim and District Community Bank has awarded the Bill Cumming Young Achiever award to Tom Jolley of Neerim South.

The Bill Cumming Young Achiever award is presented to a young person who exhibits the ideals espoused by the late “Bill Cummo” of achieving their best in whatever they choose.

Bill’s wife Christine and son Matt attended the presentati­on.

Nominees are high achievers in their chosen field and always strive to achieve excellence in their lives and the pursuit of their goals.

This year’s award winner exhibited all these qualities.

Tom has been a resident in Neerim South for all his life, attending Neerim South Primary School and then Neerim District Secondary College. He has been active in the local sporting clubs which have given him strong ties with the community. He is currently employed at the local supermarke­t.

Since graduating from junior sport he has taken on several volunteer roles within the sporting community. He is a member of the Junior Football Club committee as well as coach of the under 12 side. He can be seen around the club at any given time, volunteeri­ng.

Tom is a mentor for not just for young footballer­s male and female, but is recognised throughout the town by young children. He gives his time and energy to talk to children, and genuinely takes interest.

He has strong connection­s in the community and wants the area to prosper.

Tom has an infectious warm personalit­y, is always smiling, is always polite and will be a strong community leader into the future.

He is an upstanding young leader in the Neerim District community.

Neerim South’s annual Christmas Carols by candleligh­t event will be held at Neerim South Recreation Reserve on Friday, November 22 from 6.30pm.

The Neerim District Soldiers Memorial Hospital will host the event, which will include singing of Christmas carols and a visit from Santa Claus.

The local Lions Club will cater for the event with a sausage sizzle.
