Warragul Rotary donate to Food Relief

-

Warragul Rotary recently made a donation of $2000 to the Baw Baw Combined Churches Food Relief to assist with the purchase of food for needy clients.

Warragul Rotary Club president Vaughan Fox said Warragul Rotary Club has been a long time supporter of the local food relief program.

“We have donated both money and provided help to set up the centre,” he said.

Food Relief has operated in Warragul at its current Pearse Street location since 2015.

In a typical week between 40 to 60 food parcels are provided to needy families.

To date this year food aid and support has been provided for almost 750 families and individuals in the Baw Baw Shire, an increase on last year of 713 clients.

“With Christmas approaching we have extra demand on our food relief services so donations from local community service clubs like Rotary are always very much appreciated,” Baw Baw Food Relief manager Anne Pascoe said.

“As we approach Christmas we always like to purchase some Christmas treats for our clients such as Christmas puddings, custard, cakes and hams, so cash donations are always welcomed.”

To enable Food Relief to operate the centre receives assistance from local businesses who donate all types of food and community organisations who provide financial support.

An Opportunity Shop is also run to raise funds towards funding the Centre’s operating costs.

Clients are asked to make a $10 donation when they pick up food.

Food Relief and the Op Shop are staffed entirely by friendly local volunteers.

Donations of food and cash as well as volunteer support are always welcome.
