Drouin bowlers hit good form

Drouin had a fantastic day in WGBD pennant on Saturday, winning two divisions whilst two other divisions had close losses.

One loss was by just one shot and the other by 10 shots.

Division four had a 35 shot win over Yarragon. This was Drouin’s second win for the year, and what a win it was.

Division one: Drouin 4/89 lost to Trafalgar 16/90.

Matthew Eccles, Steve Barr, Ian McCartney and Adam Proctor (skip) defeated S. Jones’ team 26/14. Graeme Aubrey, Chris Stubbings, Sheryl Atkinson and Mick Fleming (skip) lost to S. Lodge’s team 18/24. Davyd McIlfatric­k, Les Firth, Dennis Throup and Gary Johnson (skip) defeated T. Lodge’s team 29/25. Janice Aubrey, Maureen Leighton, John Leighton and Matthew Schreyer (skip) lost to J. McCausan’s team 16/27.

Division three: Drouin (2) 18/106 defeated Boolarra 2/73.

Samantha Atkinson, John Bulmer, Margaret Rhodes and Colin Finger lost to T. Parker’s team 18/29. Laurie Innes, Terry McFadzean, Col Jeffrey and Graeme Woolstencr­oft (skip) defeated R. Peters’ team 26/13. Clive Newman, Robert Cole, Tim Anderson and Noel Rubenstein (skip) defeated R. Allen’s team 33/19. Pauline Appleyard, Andrew Blaby, Phil Jarred and David Tayles (skip) defeated S. Williams’ team 29/12.

Division four: Drouin (3) 18/118 defeated Yarragon 2/83.

Don Mowat, Lloyd Smith, Mary Firth and Neil Bullen (skip) defeated Kevin Arnold’s team 26/25. Merv Appleyard, Brian Thorpe, C. Brownlee and Peter Hone (skip) defeated Ed Davies’ team 38/14 to be named overall best rink after a 24-shot win. Elaine Thorpe, Bill Eacott, Gwen Price and Robert Proctor (skip) defeated Jason Roberts’ team 30/19. Gary Watts, Mal Anderson, Ray Watson and Tom Lawler (skip) lost to Harry Langres’ team 24/25.

Division six: Drouin Thorpdale (2) 10/53.

Max Hine, Ed Flower, Graeme Godkin and John Kinrade lost to G. Savige’s team 17/22. Jim Hogan, Roger Kennett, Richard Joyner and Kath Dixon (skip) lost to R. Wackie’s team 26/31.

Warragul Bowling Club had a great day in round nine of WGBD pennant on Saturday with the top three teams winning.

Division one had its second win for the year to keep its hopes of avoiding relegation alive, while division two had an excellent away win to the strong Moe team.

The other two teams were competitiv­e but had losses.

Division one: Warragul defeated Traralgon RSL 98/89.

John Vickerman, Matt Smith, Ken Scammell and Bill Clappers defeated Ross Sizeland’s team 33/22. Terry Sullivan, Ian Belling, Toby Wallace and Clive Padgham defeated Maurie Gardiner’s team 20/18. Ron Collins, David Alderman, Peter Gallasch and Glenn Lockett lost to David Morley’s team 17/27. Ken Landman, Keith Wilkins, David Smith and Janette Gallasch defeated Rick Lukey’s team 28/22.

Division two: Warragul (2) defeated Moe 94/81.

Shirley Melsen, Des Stephens, Paul Simmons and Roy Hammond lost to Alex Muirhead’s team 17/25. Ted Holland, Alan McDonnell, Pat Hammond and Bob Currie defeated Ted Kuklinsky’s team 27/25. Brian Barby, Lester Mason, Dave Lawrence and Peter Wood defeated Craig Thornton’s team 28/19. Kerrie Currie, Gabrielle Draisma, Andy Kidd and Eric Porter defeated Gary Ingley’s team 22/12.

TUESDAY

Drouin had one win and two losses over the three divisions in WGBD midweek pennant on Tuesday.

The bowlers certainly couldn’t blame the weather, playing in beautiful conditions.

Division one: Drouin 12/60 defeated Trafalgar 4/52.

M. Leighton (skip), S. Atkinson, M. Rhodes and L. Firth won 27/16. P. Appleyard (skip), M. Schofield, M. Firth and G. Aubrey lost 16/17. D. Hamilton (skip), J. Aubrey, L. Jeffrey and L. Innes lost 17/19.

Division two: Drouin Morwell Club 16/75.

I. Dawson (skip), D. Hone, L. Rippon and L. Fox lost 30/13. T. Cole (skip), G. Price, J. Woolard and H. Gaff lost 22/18. J. Johnson (skip), C. Attrill, P. Hone and E. Thorpe lost 23/18.

Division four: Drouin (3) 2/47 lost to Yallourn (3) 8/52.

F. Halligan (skip), B. Watts, I. Haughton and M. Brunet won 22/33. J. Caulfield (skip), L. Kinrade, J. Lang and G. Watts lost 30/14.
