It was close wins for Longwarry on Saturday with division three coming home from Traralgon RSL as one-shot winners after a great game.

In division six, Longwarry travelled to Yallourn for another close game and recorded a four-shot win.

Division three: Longwarry 16/91 defeated Traralgon RSL (2) 4/90.

Simon Counsel, Grant Pask, Ian Peterson and Russell White (skip) lost to Max Gibbon’s team 25/28.

In a great game with several lead changes, RSL managed to pick up six shots in the last three ends to win by three shots. The skips Russell and Max were standouts for their respective teams.

Elio Meggetto, Judy Eastwell, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) defeated E. Warfe’s team 20/16.

Longwarry, with Elio leading well, went into the break at eight shots apiece. Longwarry managed to get a run on, winning nine ends in a row to set up a four-shot win in a tight contest.

Brian Hennessy, Mark Serong, Gerry “Hoggalot” Mitchell and Ken White (skip) defeated Neil Ellery’s team 22/14.

Longwarry got off to a flyer, picking up five shots on the first end. The rest of the game was fairly even with skip Ken (“Squirrel”) having a day out. Longwarry recorded an eight-shot win.

Glenn Pask, Lloyd Maisey, Hank Metselaar and Slim Eastwell (skip) lost to B. Smile’s team 24/32.

The Longwarry boys got off to a very slow start and went into the break 23shots down. After a team meeting, Longwarry came out and won eight of the last 12 ends to reduce the margin to eight shots and contribute to the team’s overall win.

Division six: Longwarry 8/47 defeated Yallourn 2/43.

Sharon Twite, Eddie Bluck, Peter Smethurst and Eric Peterson (skip) lost to R. Dixon’s team 19/22.

Longwarry had a six-shot lead by end 16. However, they lost eight of the last 10 ends to go down by three shots.

Reg Dunn, Ron Sutton, Fred Pitcher and Brian Mason (skip) defeated B. William’s team 28/21.

Longwarry got out to an early 10 shot lead by end seven. An even second half of the game saw a seven-shot win recorded.
