Western Park put Panthers to the sword

-

Nothing that Yarragon tried could stem the flow of runs or breach the defences of the Western Park batsmen as they easily reached victory.

Earlier in the day, Lasitha Amarasooriya enjoyed his return to division one with a haul of 4-24, whilst Dave Burn continued his amazing form with another three-wicket haul to restrict the Panthers to just 123.

Laytten Smith (32*), Gamini Kumara (27) and Andy Trewern (24) were the pick of the batsmen, but they couldn’t muster a total that would challenge the Warriors batsmen.

Buln claim big scalp

Buln Buln (4-148) def. Hallora (7-144): Buln Buln claimed another big scalp in division one at the weekend, with the Lyrebirds taking down another of their premiership rivals – this time defeating Hallora by six wickets.

Facing a potentially tricky chase of 144, Buln’s chase began in excellent fashion with Jack Paull (a boundary laden 65) and Jack Armour (a patient and composed 38) adding 101 for the first wicket.

The Kangaroos eventually kicked into gear with the ball and claimed several quick wickets to add some interest to the contest – with Fraser Duncan (1-17 off eight) and Ryan Williams (1-29 from seven) the pick of the bowlers – but the Lyrebirds were still able to stroll over the line in the 39th over.

Earlier in the day, the likes of Jackson Noonan (2-21 from eight) and Ricky McKerrow (1-18) applied constant pressure with the ball and their consistent and testing approach paid dividends – with the Halloran batsmen unable to break the shackles until the very end of the innings.

Brett Williams (a 53-ball 34) and Mawgan Penrice (a boundary laden 30*) were the pick of the batsmen for Hallora, but their total of 7-144 proved a few too short come the end of the match.

Hawks victorious

Drouin (4-168) def. Ellinbank (140): A flurry of early wickets in defence of their total of 168 proved the difference between Drouin and Ellinbank, with the Hawks emerging victorious in the ‘Battle of the Birds’.

Simon Gardiner was in fearsome form with the new-ball, and together with Dale Weller and Mitch Goodwin, Drouin reduced the Eagles to 4-24 and from that point there was little that Ellinbank could do to claim victory.

Pandolfo (63) did his level best to launch a successful chase, but he lacked the required support from his team-mates.

Eventually Drouin were able to dismiss the Eagles in the 40th over for 140, 28 runs short of what was required.

Earlier in the day, the Hawks were able to make the most of some excellent batting conditions and posted a formidable target of 4168, with the Ellinbank bowlers unable to tie down the batsmen for any prolonged period – with the exception of Stan Harrison who snared 2-32 from his eight overs.
