Hawks unbeaten record still intact Division 6

- By Adam Johnson

Drouin 5/160 def Iona 3/133 Drouin has kept its unbeaten record intact after a narrow victory over Iona.

Opting to bat first the Hawks made a steady start with Brian McCarty and Stephen Bleazby looking dangerous.

McCarty (22) was the first man out, sending a return catch to Sean McCormack. Bleazby (35) continued to hold up an end as Brad Cross (28) looked to accelerate with the pair adding 55 for the second wicket.

Mick Wardle (37*) kept the innings on track, guiding the home side to a defendable total.

Michael Scully was the pick of the bowlers with 2/32 off seven overs.

In reply, the Swamp Tigers overcame a shaky start with Sean McCormack (38) and Michael Scully (35) threatening to disrupt Drouin’s perfect start to the season.

At 3/85 the visitors were well placed but lacked the firepower to complete the task. Liam Lenders made the most of his opportunity to finish on 27 not out with good support from Bob Rogers, who made 12 not out.

With wickets hard to come by the Hawks shared the spoils with Jacob Sandman, Brad Cross, and Mick Caddy all chiming in.

Eagles never headed

Ellinbank 1/78 def Hallora 8/67 Ellinbank were never headed in their contest with Hallora, chasing down the meagre target in just 16 overs.

Mathew Guy was the main aggressor for the Eagles, striking four fours and four sixes to finish the day on 49 not out. Samuel Pratt (20) got away to a flying start with two fours and one six before holing out off the bowling of Darren Welford.

Earlier in the day Pratt played his part with the ball in hand, returning figures of 4/17 from a seven over spell.

In the face of some very tight bowling only three batsmen managed to make a start with Jake Dean (14), Xavier King (13), and Dean Alush (12) reaching double figures.

Run feast for Warriors

Western Park 4/299 def Jindivick 10/72 Western Park launched an unprecedented assault on the Jumping Jacks bowling line-up before running through the opposition to record a 227-run victory.

Choosing to bat first on the lightning fast Regional College oval, the Warriors went on the attack almost from ball one.

Michael Modaffari raced to 57 retired not out with eight boundaries and three sixes. Riley Youssef was slightly more restrained retiring not out on 51 with six fours and one six.

James McKellar followed suit striking eight boundaries before reaching 51 retired not out and not to be outdone, Angus Mitchell belted an even 50 just from boundaries (11 fours and one six) before retiring not out on 54.

Fortunately for the home side Zac Murphy (27*) ran out of overs to inflict even more damage.

Under such trying conditions Dave Wagner’s return to the field was a moderate success. With figures of 2/46 he was the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, Jindivick wilted under the ferocity of opening bowlers Jay Engellener and Riley Youssef.

Engellener snared the first three scalps to finish with 3/26 while Youssef claimed the next three to finish with 3/24.

Michael Modaffari wrapped things up with 2/3 off three (two maidens). James Keogh top scored with 21.
