Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Life’s work to resurrect building

-

I am indebted to Matthew Laverack for his kind words regarding the Garfield Picture Theatre (Gaz, Dec 27) which has been my life's work for the last 20 years.

I came here as a three-month-old child from Spain in 1955 but am now a proud Aussie. This country has given me everything and I hope I have given something back.

I remember my primary school teacher Mrs Oaks who instilled in me the love of artistic expression. I think of her constantly whenever I walk around the restored theatre and whenever we have new performers.

It has been a long hard struggle to resurrect this beautiful old building and it is most gratifying when people express appreciation.

But I must say now that I could never have done it without the unstinting love and support of my partner Susan McMahon.

Our next concert will be a tribute to Neil

Many bouquets to the Gazette, volunteers and those who attended the Community Christmas Luncheon on Christmas Day. A lovely meal with friendship, music and happiness held at the Uniting Church in Warragul.

A bouquet to Baw Baw Shire for erecting the roundabout at the Mason and Albert St intersection. It has made the journey home from shopping so much easier, as waiting for traffic on Mason St to turn right into Albert St used to be a headache. Most times we drove on to Queen St and turned left at the lights to get home. Now it is such a relief to be able to get home the short the way. Diamond and Bobby Darin on Saturday, January 27. It promises to be a most enjoyable experience.

Susan and I would love to welcome previous customers and new patrons who enjoy a rip roaring evening.

Fred Perez, Garfield

A bouquet to Warragul Drouin Gazette for printing the Christmas Carols song books.

A bouquet to the Warragul Harness Racing Club for their “Lend a Hand” Christmas lunch for disadvantaged people. Great to see the club now exists for the community and not just for members.

A bouquet to the wonderful gentleman who found my phone wallet in the trolley at Woolworths Drouin and handed it in. It contained all my cards and licence, so I was envisioning a difficult time trying to finish my Christmas shopping. Thank you.

Bouquet to Drouin Waste Recyclers who provide such good customer service every time I go there. They are so willing to help.
