Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Consider options for Drouin eyesore site

-

Bricks to the residents of Warragul North who let off fireworks on Friday, December 29. This is a rural area in a fire danger period. Besides which, it is illegal.

Bouquets to the Drouin paramedics who showed all the kids through their ambulance at the Drouin Lights Up festival and gave them rides on their stretcher..

Thank you to those who displayed Christmas lights around Warragul and Drouin. Our grandchildren loved them. (So did Nana and Pa).

Trailer-loads of bouquets to all Warragul emergency services ambulance, police, fire service, SES, tow truckies, hospital emergency staff, and our RACV insurance. After a complex road accident on Wednesday morning, all of the above services shone!! Thank you all, so much.

Bouquets to the guy who helped me after I took a nose dive outside Warragul Mitsubishi and drove me home. Also to the other kind people who stopped to assist. I can assure him I did get a dressing down from my wife for not letting her know where I was. It was my first walk after my shoulder replacement.

Bouquets to the two young men who were chatting to my husband while he was sitting on his mobility scooter outside Coles then they went into get some beer and on the way out they gave him two stubbies, one for him and one for me. With all the horrible things you hear these days I think this is amazing.

To the guy in Drouin who stopped to give my great aunt flowers, thank you! You got Christmas day off to a great start.

The empty land in the centre of Drouin which was formerly Edwards Engineering has been an eyesore for a number of years and plans to develop the site with new shops and offices have come to naught.

Nevertheless, there are other options for this site.

Imagine a proper bus interchange with attractive modern toilets and a comfortable undercover waiting area. Drouin taxis could then reoccupy their previous location convenient to the railway station exit, presently taken over for the PTV bus stop.

Memorial Park could be extended and beautified by demolition of the existing outdated toilet block.

There might even be room to include a small park with grassed areas and children’s play equipment, attractive gardens with seats for relaxation and some additional car parking to relieve the pressure on Main Street.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Can council grasp the nettle to secure a lasting improvement to both the civic amenity of the town and the streetscape for the benefit of all future citizens? Malcolm Dow, Drouin
