Fundraiser to help new hub reach target

-

The low-cost family community centre Warragul Hub is on the verge of finally opening.

Several building issues that deferred its opening from last year have now been resolved with Baw Baw Shire and a late March/early April target is set for its opening to the public.

But before then the management board has its eyes fixed on some fundraising events, the first of which will be an Australia Day twilight country fair.

Spokesperson Julie Bellingham said the fair would be at Logan Park in Warragul from 5pm to 8pm. on Friday, January 26, and feature a car boot sale, lots of competitions and activities for children and adults and plenty to drink and eat.

Ms Bellingham said the target was to raise $150,000 between now and the end of March to enable the centre to open debt free.

Warragul Hub, established in a former commercial/industrial building at the corner of North Rd and June Crt, is an initiative of a number of district church groups.

It has been largely funded by donations, grants and business sponsorships on top of major contributions by an army of volunteers that have contributed well over 1000 manhours.

The building has been converted to provide an activity centre for children, mini-golf, rooms for counselling, meetings, social gatherings and seminars, and café, play and ministry areas.
