Filipino art on show at Jindivick

-

The Red Tree Gallery in Jindivick will host international artist Florence Cinco for the month of January.

The Filipino artist met the owners of the gallery, Laurie and Marian Collins, at an arts festival in Thailand several years ago.

Florence has now taken the opportunity to come to Australia, work at the gallery and hold a show of his works along with other Filipino artists residing in Melbourne.

Florence recently organised an arts festival in the Philippines. After his residency in Jindivick, he goes to another festival in Thailand and a printmaking workshop in Japan before travelling to the USA for speaking engagements about his work and how it connects to preSpanish Filipino culture Maharlika.

Florence has been working at Jindivick since before Christmas and has met with several local and Melbourne artists.

His work on show at Red Tree Gallery is mainly sculptural, repurposing steel scrap into objects of meaning and beauty.

He is partnered in this exhibition by several artists of the FAME group (Filipino Artists of Melbourne), including Do Noble who has exhibited at many local art shows.

The exhibition will be formally opened on Saturday at 2pm. Everyone is welcome to meet the artists and share a variety of food and drink.

The exhibition concludes on Wednesday, January 31 and will be followed by an exhibition by local artist Jessie McLennan.
