Pennant bowls resumes Saturday

West Gippsland Bowls Saturday pennant will resume on Saturday following its midseason break.

Garfield

Garfield had wins over Warragul in division five and Thorpdale in division heading into the mid-season break.

Division five: Garfield defeated Warragul 122/49.

Les Pumphrey (skip), Graeme Burton, Jim Boucher and Ron Saunders got away to a flying start, up 10/1. Although Warragul’s young lead Fletcher Pallott held the shot at time, Garfield had a great 55/5 win.

Gordon Moxey (skip), Bob Lamport, Don Knight and Wes Goodman were in a tight contest early before gradually pulling away for a 38/20 win.

Helene Newton (skip), Ken Newton, Malcolm Newham and Cliff Stephens lost three of the first four ends to be down 1/7. They won the next nine ends and, despite being 24/22 on the 23rd, held on to win 29/24.

Division 66/50.

Damian Brick (skip), Lex Taylor, Alan Wilson and Phil Humphreys were own 2/10 early but fought back to even the scores just prior to the break. They came home strongly for a 37/25 win.

Judy Pocklingto­n (skip), Maureen Lamport, Bev Sainsbery and Keith Sainsbery also trailed early, down 1/9. They levelled before gaining the lead. However, scores were tied again on the 20th before Garfield secured a 29/25 win. six: Garfield defeated Thorpdale

Drouin

Drouin Bowling Club had a good day with division three gaining a 40-shot win over Yinnar.

Division one: Drouin 4/82 lost to Traralgon RSL 16/99.

Janice Aubrey, Maureen Leighton, John Leighton and Matthew Schreyer (skip) lost to R. Sizeland’s team 23/25. Davyd McIllfatri­ck, Les Firth, Dennis Throup and Gary Johnson (skip) defeated M. Garding’s team 27/22. Graeme Aubrey, Chris Stubbings, Sheryl Atkinson and Mick Fleming (skip) lost to D. Hobson’s team 8/31. Matthew Eccles, Steve Barr, Ian McCartney and Adam Proctor (skip) defeated D. Morley’s team 24/21.

Division three: Drouin 18/116 defeated Yinnar 2/76.

Samantha Atkinson, John Bulmer, Margaret Rhodes and Col Jeffrey (skip) defeated P. Bramley’s team 32/15 to be overall best rink. Laurie Innes, Ron Brodie, Chris Brownlee and Graeme Woolstencr­oft (skip) lost to M. Detamaye’s team 21/23. Chris Newman, Robert Cole, Tim Anderson and Noel Rubenstein (skip) defeated T. Roche’s team 27/19. Pauline Appleyard, Terry McFadzean, Phil Jarred and Davyd Tayles (skip) defeated G. Osborne’s team 36/19.

Division four: Drouin 4/72 16/77.

Don Mowat, Lloyd Smith, Mary Firth and Neil Bullen (skip) defeated Darryl Williams’ team 28/16. Merv Appleyard, Brian Thorpe, John Kinrade and Peter Hone (skip) lost to K. Evans’ team 16/33. Elaine Thorpe, Bill Eacott, Gwen Price and Rob Proctor (skip) lost to C. Caddy’s team 20/23. Gary Watts, Mal Anderson, Ray Watson and Kevin Potter (skip) defeated Michael Holroyd’s team 23/20.

Neerim District

Neerim District Bowling Club gained a division two win over Garfield in the last round of WGBD prior to Christmas.

Division two: Neerim District defeated Garfield 107/73. Peter Brooks (skip), Trevor Kuhnell, Chris Hogan and Steve Halligan lost 23/28 against S. Whyte’s team. Peter Throup (skip), Karren Sheers, Russell Meehan and Wes Ellis, playing against T. Cleary’s team, won 23/15. Shane Hogan (skip), Ray Watts, Gerry Engelstad and Ross Pollard, playing against J. Majkut’s team, won 27/11. Angus McGillivra­y (skip), Jim Fallon, Pat Fraser-Aurisch and Tony Thornton, playing against S. Basso’s team, won 34/19.

Division five: Neerim District lost to Traralgon RSL (3) 50/90.

Mal Collins (skip), Bill Cook, Thelma Schroeder and Colin McKay lost 20/30 against D. McClare’s team. Tom Goodwin (skip), Bruce Mironow, Phil Mapleson and John Rochford, playing against

T. Brand’s team, lost 16/31. Jim Schroeder (skip), Gerald Winter, Kevin Aurisch and Greg Bond lost 14/29 against P. Kennon’s team.

Longwarry

Longwarry’s division three had a comfortabl­e 42-shot win over Morwell, winning all rinks, in the final round of WGBD before the mid-season break.

Division six also had a good 27-shot win over Trafalgar.

Division three: Longwarry 20/114 defeated Morwell 0/72.

Simon Counsel, Grant Pask, Ian Peterson and Russell White (skip) defeated Ian Auld’s team 39/15. Elio Meggetto, Judy Eastwell, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) defeated L. Knowle’s team 22/16. Vicki Hanks, Mark Serong, Brian Hennessy and Ken White (skip) defeated Daryl White’s team 29/20. Glenn Pask, Eddie Bluck, Lloyd Maisey and Slim Eastwell (skip) defeated Di White’s team 24/21.

Division six: Longwarry 10/63 defeated Trafalgar 0/36.

Sharon Twite, Peter Smethurst, Eric Peterson and Gerry Wakefield (skip) defeated N. Morland’s team 34/20. Reg Dunn, Ron Sutton, Fred Pitcher and Brian Mason (skip) defeated G. Burt’s team 29/16.

Drouin bowlers will compete in the McGilton shield at Trafalgar today. There will be three teams of four players. Team 1: John Bulmer, Steve Barr, Les Firth, John Leighton.

Team 2: Graham Woolstencr­oft, David Tayles, Dennis Throup, Gary Johnson.

Team 3: Ron Brodie, Colin Finger, Mick Fleming, Matthew Schreyer.
