St John of God Berwick Hospital on the move Do you suffer from pain, injury, illness or stress?

-

On Thursday January 18, St John of God Berwick Hospital will open its doors to patients for the first time at its new location on Kangan Drive in Berwick.

The date marks the end of a two-year construction process that has seen St John of God Berwick Hospital grow from an 82bed facility to a multi-storey state-of-the-art hospital which can now accommodate 202 patient beds.

Exponential growth of the building aside, the hospital is expanding its services also in order to meet the demand of the growing Casey-Cardinia communities and the Eastern Victoria region. Theatre capacity has doubled growing from four theatres at Gibb Street to eight at Kangan Drive. A new Critical Care Unit will open which will house the area’s first intensive care unit and a cardiac/high dependency service, along with the region’s first catheter laboratory. Rehabilitation services will also open next month.

“These services enable us to continue to provide a more comprehensive range of services to enable us to fulfil our commitment to serving the needs of our local communities,” said Lisa Norman, CEO for St John of God Berwick Hospital. “It’s about continuing to expand our services and build on the legacy that was started some 100-plus years ago when the first health care facility was opened on our Gibb Street hospital site in Berwick back in 1910.”

It’s a rich history in health care that St John of God Berwick Hospital is extremely proud of and transferring the memories and culture from the original site to the new location has been an important part of the hospital relocation process.

On January 18, the first patient will be transferred from Gibb Street at 8am, with the entire hospital expected to be relocated by mid-afternoon the same day. Planning for the move has been a meticulous process. No stone has been left unturned to ensure that patient safety remains paramount throughout the relocation procedure. Once the last patient has arrived at 75 Kangan Drive, the Gibb Street hospital location will close while it undergoes a redevelopment of its own. A rehabilitation hospital, to be known as the St John of God Langmore Centre, will open in its place in 2019.

Bowen Therapy and Reflexology are gentle, natural modalities that can be used to treat pain, injuries, migraines, anxiety and stress, and also balance hormonal and emotional issues.

Internal organs benefit from these treatments, in particular the respiratory and digestive systems. Asthma, sinus congestion, colic, reflux, fluid retention and constipation can be relieved by improving circulation and lymphatic drainage.

Bowen Therapy works on the soft connective tissue of the body and is gentle and relaxing. Treatments can resolve muscle and skeletal based problems such as backache, neck tension, headaches, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, sciatica, hip, knee and ankle injuries, RSI and much more.

Reflexology is the method of massaging reflex points on the feet that correspond with specific organs and body systems. This clears blocked energy pathways, improving blood flow, nervous system function and the elimination of toxins.

Neuro Training with Kinesiology can also be incorporated into sessions to clear stresses to alleviate symptoms and allow the person to recuperate and live a more balanced life.

These therapies help to calm the nervous system and to achieve balance and harmony in the body, resulting in lasting relief from pain and discomfort, and improved physical and emotional quality of life.

Treatments are available with Robyn McCraw at 26a Albert Street, Warragul.
