Warragul has day to forget

Warragul Bowling Club had a bad day in round 11 of WGBD pennant on Saturday, with three teams losing, one winning and one washed out. Division one: Warragul lost to Drouin 56/119. John Vickerman, Des Stephens, Bill Clappers and Ken Scammell lost to Matt Schreyer’s team 13/26. Ted Holland, Terry Sullivan, Toby Wallace and Clive Padgham lost to Gary Johnson’s team 15/37. Ron Collins, David Alderman, Steve Pallot and Graeme Davis lost to Mark Atkinson’s team 15/23. Kerrie Currie, Keith Wilkins, Peter Gallasch and Janette Gallasch lost to Adam Proctor’s team 13/33.

Division two: Warragul (2) lost to Neerim District 89/110.

Ken Landman, Stan Hunt, Roy Hammond and Jim Moyle lost to Peter Brooks’ team 19/28. Shirley Melsen, Andy Kidd, Paul Simmons and Necip Akarsu defeated Peter Throup’s team 27/15. Gabrielle Draisma, Brian Barby, Eric Porter and Peter Wood lost to Shane Hogan’s team 18/33. David Gatewood, Alan McDonnell, Pat Hammond and Bob Currie lost to Angus McGillivra­y’s team 25/34.

Division three: Warragul (3) washed out against Boolarra.

Division five: Warragul (4) defeated Neerim District (2) 71/64.

Jean Kydd, Bob Dowal, David Anderson and Vin Roche defeated Neil Adams’ team 22/21. Freda Lay, Lindsay Matthews, Bill Clark and David Piggin defeated Bill Cook’s team 28/13. Wilf Boscombe, Fletcher Pallot, May Baldwin and Mike Cousens lost to Mal Collins’ team 21/30.

Division six: Warragul (5) lost to Thorpdale (2) 24/77.

John Bell, Rick Vanzuylan, Michael Royce and Alan Potter lost to M. Czempinski’s team 14/40. Rick McCoy, Barbara Maloni, Marj Evison and Bill Dye lost to G. Savige’s team 10/37.

In round 12 of WGBD pennant on Saturday, Warragul one is home to Morwell Club, Warragul two is away to Traralgon, Warragul three is home to Yinnar, Warragul four is away to Morwell and Warragul five has the bye.

Mixed pairs final

The final of Warragul Bowling Club’s mixed pairs was played on Friday.

It saw Clive Padgham and Shirley Melsen versus Elsie Hefford and Matt Draisma.

Elsie’s team drew first blood with a one before Clive and Shirley got the next seven shots.

Elsie and Matt got two ones, then Clive and Shirley got a big six. Elsie and Matt got three on the next end but Clive and Shirley got two, one and another big six to lead 22/6.

Elsie’s team bounced back with a five to put them back in the game.

The last five ends of the game were basically shared, giving Clive and Shirley a 26/16 win, with the last end not required to be played.
