Charity golf day to Amaze
Vin and Judy Bibby have felt compelled to organise a charity golf day in support of positive change for people with autism.
Now the guardians of their 12-year-old grandson who has autism, Mr and Mrs Bibby have arranged the event that will support the Amaze organisation.
Amaze was set up in 1967 by a group of parents who were struggling to find autism resources. It provided a central information source and supported individuals and their families.
Today Amaze is the peak body for people on the autism spectrum and their supporters in Victoria.
Amaze raises awareness and influences positive change for people on the autism spectrum and their families/supporters and provides independent, credible information and resources to individuals, families, professionals, government and the wider community.
The Amaze organisation aims for a society respects the dignity of every person on the autism spectrum, and offers every person on the autism spectrum real opportunities to participate and contribute.
Amaze offers free, independent and confidential information, support and referrals to autistic people, their families and supporters – including providing the Autism Advisor service for all Victorian families who have a child diagnosed with autism under seven years old.
The charity golf day at Drouin Golf Club in aid of autism research will be held on Sunday, February 4 with several local businesses supporting the event.
Held as part of Drouin’s Ficifolia Festival, witha golf day on the Ficifolia program for the 30th year, Mr Bibby said the event would carry the highly sought after Ficifolia medal.
He said local businesses and club members had been very supportive of the event, with many already committing to take to the course.
“When I was in Apex there was a national campaign, so Ilooked for a group and that’s when Ifirst came in contact with Amaze,” he said.
“The golf club has always run a charity day, and it was an opportunity to marry them together.
“We’ve had terrific sponsorship from local business, and terrific support from club members and family.”
Men’s and women’s 18-hole stableford events, including handicap and non-handicap categories, will carry a first prize to the value of $200, with other prizes for nearest the pin mystery hole, longest and straightest drives.
Novelty events will also feature on the day, including shooting for the middle of a truck tyre that will be placed in the middle of the course’s dam.
