Neerim offers bumper weekend of activity

Neerim will be a hive of activity this weekend with the second Neerim Rodeo leading into the 101st Neerim District Country Show.

The rodeo will kick off a bumper weekend at Neerim Recreation Reserve in Hamono Rd, Neerim, with gates opening at 4pm ahead of the action kick-off at 6pm on Saturday.

The country show will follow on Sunday from 10am to 3pm.

The rodeo and show are perfect for a family day out with a range of children’s rides offered on Saturday from 4pm to 9pm and Sunday from 10am to 3pm.

The helicopter joy flights over Neerim will be offered over both events and are a new addition.

The Neerim District Country Show committee has been working hard behind the scenes to offer an exciting show program with a country feel for Sunday. It embraces tradition and all things rural whilst rotating activities to keep it fresh.

“There are things here that you can’t enjoy at shows in the city, an example is the helicopter joy flights,” said president Frank Schelleken­s.

The Sunday festivitie­s will include show bags, animal nursery and pony rides.

Woodchop competitio­ns, a massive steam engine display, vintage trucks and cars display, dog high jump, working dog and sheep shearing displays and lawn mower racing will be amongst the highlights.

The show personalit­y and junior show ambassador will continue to be popular attraction. The pavilion will be packed with arts and craft, photograph­y, produce and youth displays. Live entertainm­ent will also be offered. A variety of sit down and takeaway food options will include popcorn and ice-creams.

A weekend pass for entry to both the rodeo and show are available. The pass is $44 for adults, $38.50 for pension/concession, $22 for children aged five to 17 years and $110 for a family of two adults and two children.

Alternativ­ely, rodeo only tickets are $33 for adults, $27.50 for pension/concession, $16.50 for kids and $77 for a family.

Show only tickets are $16.50 for adults, $11 for pension/concession and kids, and $44 for a family.

Kids under four are admitted free to both the rodeo and show.
