Youth ensemble to make debut

-

A newly formed ensemble of seven musicians aged 13 to 19 years will debut with a fundraising concert at Wesley of Warragul on Sunday at 3pm.

“Ensemble Vivace” is siblings Jacob and Taylah Evans of Warragul, Josiah Gillam of Drouin, siblings Joshua, Samuel and Rebekah Zhang of Cranbourne and Ernest Tay of Berwick.

Utilising violin, viola, cello and piano, the ensemble will perform chamber music from various European composers dating from the Renaissance through to 19th century, finished off with a touch of America.

Sunday’s program features Corelli, Vivaldi, Mozart, Dvorak and Borodin along with the premiere of Samuel Zhang's String Quartet, written last year.

The seven musicians all met via a home school cooperation.

The Wesley of Warragul concert will be the ensemble’s first performance. It follows several months of rehearsals and three of the musicians performing publicly as a trio in October.

“I’m just looking forward to playing the music together,” said Jacob Evans. “I love performing, whether solo or in an ensemble.”

They will perform the same program in Cranbourne on Saturday, February 3.

Audience members are asked to arrive at Wesley of Warragul before 2.45pm for the 3pm concert.

Tickets to the Wesley of Warragul concert are $10 per person or free for children under six.

All funds raised will support Christian missions across the world.
