Barwick chimes in

Iona (225) vs. Jindivick (1-2): For the first time in several matches Luke Ferguson didn’t dominate the scoring for Iona, but as is a regular occurrence for the Swamp Tigers it didn’t matter, as team-mates Jayson Barwick and Mick Taylor chimed in with handy knocks to propel Iona to strong first innings total.

Ferguson made his way to 28 before he had his defences breached by Phill Young, but Taylor (32) and Barwick (a season’s best 76) fought back and boosted the scoring through the middle part of the day.

However, Interlandi snared 4-28 to help Jindivick fight back and Iona were dismissed for 225 in the 63rd over.

Left with four overs to face out, Andrew Pyle was removed by Shannon Hayhow without scoring, and at 1-2 the Jumping Jacks face a stiff chase next weekend against the ladder leaders.

Maher strikes century

Western Park (6-271) vs. Buln Buln: Travis Maher struck a sensational century to propel Western Park to a hefty first innings total against Buln Buln, the knock his first ton for the Warriors.

Having shown glimpses this season of his elegant run-scoring ability, Maher took full toll on the Lyrebirds bowlers after quickly settling at the crease.

Making full use of his favoured cut-shot and driving powerfully, Maher’s innings of 104 carried Western Park to 6-271 from their 70 overs.

Stephen Boltong (48), Michael Talbot (33*) and Daniel Hilton (32) all made valuable contributions and ensured that all the pressure for a successful chase falls on the shoulders of Buln’s Rhys Holdsworth – the former Vic Country (and current GCL representative) making a rare foray into the fiery cauldron of cricket that is division three.

Boasting an impressive batting CV, Holdsworth will need to be at his very best to help his side over the line next weekend.
