For those ready for something a bit different, Off The Leash Theatre will hold play readings and discussions on the first Tuesday of each month starting on Tuesday, February 6.

The play readings, titled “First Tuesdays”, will be held at the Old Drouin Butter Factory from 7pm. Entrance is by gold coin donation.

The February event will feature a dark comedy read by the talented Amy Moss.

During 2018, “First Tuesdays” will be an evening for theatre adventurers and those who just want to see theatre in the making.

The monthly readings will be a mixture of new works, well-known works and others that might suit local audiences.

Readings are a great introduction to the workings of theatre as scripts are brought to life through voice and simple actions. The visualising what is happening on stage and layering in the potential for theatrical lighting, sets, music and special effects tests the imagination at first.

As with novels, different plays appeal to different people and much time is spent examining the story itself, the writer’s intention, as well as the theatricality and suitability of a play before it passes muster for a production.

Most often local actors will take the roles, so all participants have to do is listen and perhaps offer comments. At other times, scripts may be distributed to those wishing to take part in the reading.

Off The Leash Theatre Inc also aims to produce an original drama or comedy every two years, so is keen to hear from writers and those keen on devising and producing new works.
