Squash players fight for finals

-

The last home and away round of Baw Baw Squash last Tuesday night saw a full complement of players endeavouring to secure a place in the finals for their team.

As a result the ladder finished with Hawks on top on 42 points followed by Vultures (38), Swans (26), Crows (18) and Eagles (16).

In tonight’s finals the Hawks play the Vultures with the winner going straight into the grand final and the loser next week playing the winner of the other final between the Swans and the Crows. It’s season over for the loser of the second match.

Last week, on court one the Hawks had a 2-784 win over the Crows 1-4-69, while on court two the Vultures 2-6-66 defeated the Swans 1-450.

Best players on the night were Jason Tainton, Chris Cameron and Peter Young, all of whom convincingly won their matches in three games.

Chris Cameron seemed in a particular hurry to get home with his intensely focused and devastating performance against Lynton McPhail, winning 9/2, 9/1, 9/2. For this determined effort he was given the sponsor’s player of the night award.

All other matches went to four games with the victors all winning the final game with relative ease after being pushed by their opponents in the previous games.

The next competition begins in three weeks’ time. New or returning players are most welcome.

Those interested are invited to attend a grading night to be held at Bellbird Park on Tuesday February 13.
