Batson quizzed on fiery spell

-

Samuel Laffy caught up with Sam Batson after the game and quizzed the fiery quick about his performance, taking an exceptional 7/6 from 24 overs to help Western Park to a comfortable victory in division one.

Samuel Laffy: Was that the best you’ve felt bowling - in terms of rhythm and pace - or did you not notice a difference in how you were bowling compared to your ‘usual’ performance?

Sam Batson: I probably felt better last week, I could’ve bowled 30 straight if needed, and I think it’s the fastest I’ve bowled for a sustained period, particularly considering it was a lifeless pitch.

Yesterday I felt good but it was more focusing on trying to extract any movement I could, as there wasn’t a lot of pace in the pitch.

SL: 7-6 off 24 overs is almost unheard of - what were you thinking while you were bowling?

SB: I didn’t really think too much about it at the time, I was just focusing on making sure our fields were right, that we kept building pressure through maidens and that we didn’t let the batsmen get on top. It wasn’t till I walked off and checked the scorebook that my figures sort of dawned on me.

SL: Were you surprised that none of the Drouin batsmen tried to attack you more?

SB: I was definitely surprised they didn’t have a more attacking mind set after struggling to survive last week, but at the same time if Glover survived a little longer at the top and saw myself and Burnsy off, the runs probably would’ve started to flow.

The ‘war of attrition’ style of play definitely suited us that’s for sure, but credit to Timewell in particular for his patience over 50 overs.
