Pioneers celebrated in talk

-

The history of Drouin’s pioneers will again be acknowledged as part of Drouin’s Ficifolia Festival.

Baw Baw Shire Councillor Keith Cook will hold a talk to discuss John Sutcliffe, one of the town’s first pioneers, at Drouin Library on Thursday, February 8 from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.

Mr Sutcliffe started searching for gold in Crossover in 1865 and eventually set up a series of hotels in Crossover, Drouin and Korumburra.

He then became a shire councillor, where he helped with the development of local schools and established a stage coach between the townships of Poowong and Neerim.
