Expect road delays

-

Bridge works on Princes Highway between Nilma and Darnum will begin this month and will take up to six months to complete.

VicRoads is strengthening the bridge over Little Moe River on the eastbound lanes to improve safety, especially for heavy commercial vehicles.

Eastern Regional Director Scott Lawrence said drivers can expect lane closures and reduced speed limits during the works.

He said the highway was a major transport route that carried a large volume of heavy vehicles each day.

The strengthening will involve an overlay with carbon fibre and reinforced concrete on the bridge deck.

New bridge barriers and guard fences will also be installed. Similar work, expected to take about four months, due to start in the next few weeks on the Morwell River Flood Plain bridge just west of Morwell will also result in some lane closures.

Mr Lawrence said installation of flexible safety barriers on sections of Princes Highway between Longwarry and Traralgon was continuing.

“We appreciate areas of the highway will be down to one lane with reduced speed limits for some months and ask drivers to be patients, travel safely through work areas and pay attention to changed traffic conditions”.

He said VicRoads apologised for the inconvenience but the bridge strengthening and other works were essential.
