Good results in opening event

Sixty-one Warragul women played in the opening day stableford event sponsored by the Knersch family in memory of their mother, Ollie Knersch, who was a very keen Warragul golfer.

Near perfect conditions enabled the participan­ts to score some very good results.

The winner of A grade was one of the club’s lowest handicappe­rs Deb Corstorphi­n with 40 points. Janine Williams was the runner up with 39 points.

The winner of B grade was Belinda Best with 39 points from runner up Sandy Heenan with 36 points.

Margaret Williams won C grade with 39 points followed by Jill Little with 38 points.

Down the line balls went to Beth Sibson, Tracey Cusden and Heather Reeves all on 37 points, Del Baker 36 points, Mary Knersch and Helen Coghlan both on 35 points, Rose Gallagher, Penny Scott, Lesley Huggins and Evelyn Christie all on 34 points, Lyn Morrison 33 points, Angela Stewart, Sue Rose and Marie Veitch all on 32 points.

Nearest the pin on the seventh was Janine Williams, while Lesley Huggins was the closest on the 15th.

A new competitio­n called Mystery Six, taking the place of the pro-pin, was won by Deb Corstorphi­n in A grade while Angela Stewart won B grade.

Barb Wirth won the nine-hole event with 20 points from Molly Answerth 16 points.

Down the line balls went to Marg Gleeson 16 points, Dorothy Logan 15 points and Dianne Mason-woods on 14 points.

The winners of the two-week Heath Jones Trophy, a three-person Gentsomes stableford event played last month, were announced. Scoring 181 points were winners Mary Knersch, Anna Boyd and Tracey Rabl from runners up Jennie Weir, Barb Glasser and Wilma Henshall on 178 points.

Tomorrow’s stroke event signifies the starting date for the yearly competitio­ns. It is the February monthly medal and participan­ts are reminded to count putts.
