Galvin lauches assault

Jindivick (8-221) def. Yarragon (94): Peter Galvin launched a brutal assault on the Yarragon attack that comprehensively took the wind out of the Panthers sails; helping the Jumping Jacks to a whopping 127 run win.

Galvin’s 57-ball blitzkrieg saw him blast 88 runs – the assault overcoming the loss of two early wickets and being the highlight of a 141run third wicket stand that carried Jindivick to 8-221.

Sean Viotto chimed in with 91 opening up, and the required runs proved far too great for Yarragon to chase.

John Malacarne was aggressive opening up – striking 22 – but the rest of the Panthers lineup struggled to exert any influence and they were bundled out for 94 in the 31st over.

Anthony Maguire was the pick of the bowlers, with his loop and variety too much for Yarragon to handle – his haul of 5-14 hastening the Panthers’ defeat.

Cheeseman leads chase

Western Park (8-157) def. Longwarry (156): A stunning half-century from Sam Cheeseman has helped Western Park claim a tight two-wicket win over Longwarry; his knock rescuing the Warriors after a top-order collapse left their run chase teetering on the verge of disaster.

In a match where high-scoring was anticipated – following the move of the match to the confines of Longwarry Primary School – Longwarry mustered 156 after electing to bat first, with Liam Quarrell’s knock of 58 leading the Crows to 156 before they were dismissed in the 38th over.

Amazingly, Western Park utilised 10 bowlers in that time, with Matt Garner the pick of the bunch claiming 3-18.

In reply, Daniel Hilton (0), Michael Talbot (9), Stephen Briggs (13) and Stephen Boltong (0) all failed leaving Western Park in the precarious position of 4-41.

Thankfully for them, Cheeseman struck a magnificent 65 and found support from Lane Ward (16*) to help the Warriors over the line in the 34th over.
