Division 3

- By Sam Laffy

Buln Buln (4-275) def. Neerim District (8-198): In a round marked by high scores, Buln Buln compiled the highest of all on their way to a 77-run win over Neerim District, with the aggressive intent of the Lyrebirds top order paying dividends.

Dean Hendrikse (78) and Jack Syme (67) combined for an attacking 132-run first wicket stand that well and truly took the wind out of the Neerim District sails, and James Davidson (a boundary-laden 85*) took full toll in the latter part of the innings to lift Buln to 4-275 from their allotted overs.

In reply, several of the Stags’ batsmen made starts, but the asking rate was always too great for them to match, and they fell well short posting 8-198.

Dave Ferguson (42) and Travis McCann (35) were the pick of the batsmen for Neerim District.

Iona win big

Iona (4-259) def. Garfield-Tynong (89): The Swamp Tigers continued on their merry way at the weekend, claiming a huge 170-run win over Garfield-Tynong in a match that barely resembled a contest.

Having elected to bat first, Iona launched a stunning attack on the bowlers from ball one, with Luke Ferguson (a typically aggressive 58), Michael Neilson (a measured 85*) and Mick Taylor (67) having their way with the Titans’ bowlers.

After 40 overs they had totalled 4-259 and Garfield-Tynong’s hopes were slim.

So it was that they were bundled out for just 89 in the 27th over, with their line-up barely firing a shot in retaliation.

Sam Accardi (2-26), Taylor (2-13) and Nathan Wheildon (2-18) all enjoyed success with the ball as Iona claimed a massive win.
