Neerim teams go down in pennant

Both Neerim District teams suffered losses in West Gippsland Bowls Division Saturday pennant.

It capped a difficult week for the club, which also went down to Drouin in mid-week pennant on Tuesday.

Saturday pennant

Results: Division 2: Neerim District lost to Moe (2) 85/81: Peter Brooks (skip), Jim Fallon, Trevor Kuhnell and Chris Hogan lost 22/18 against A Caines’ team.

Peter Throup (skip), Karren Sheers, Russell Meehan and Wes Ellis won 22/17 against C Thornton ‘s team.

Shane Hogan (skip), Ray Watts, Gerry Engelstad and Ross Pollard won 22/20 against A Muirhead’s team.

Angus McGillivray (skip), Pat Fraser-Aurisch, Tony Thornton and Colin McKay lost 19/26 against T Kuklinsky’s team.

Division 4: Neerim District lost to Morwell Club (2) 81/56:

Mal Collins (skip), Maureen Halligan, Dianne Tame and John Rochford lost to A Ralls’ team 31/15.

Tom Goodwin (skip), Steve Halligan, Bruce Mironow and George Rymer lost to G Unwin’s team 25/18.

Jim Schroeder (skip), Gerald Winter, Thelma Schroeder and Greg Bond McCurley’s team 25/23.

Tuesday pennant

Results: Division 1: Neerim District lost to Drouin 88/40:

Pat Fraser-Aurisch (skip), Dianne Tame, Gerald Winter and Kevin Aurisch lost to M Leighton’s team 30/11.

Elizabeth Hodge (skip), Thelma Schroeder, Russell Meehan and Colin McKay lost to M Schofield’s team 25/13.

Karren Sheers (skip), Maureen Halligan, Marion Willis and Gerry Engelstad lost to D Hamilton’s team 23/16.

Mixed tournament

Clubs from as far as Upwey-Tecoma supported Neerim District’s mixed fours tournament recently.

Local teams from Drouin, Garfield and Trafalgar also competed.

North ward Councillor Peter Kostos presented the Baw Baw Shire Australia Day Perpetual Cup and sport medallions to event winners Merv Appleyard, Pauline Appleyard, Dale Hendrick and Mick Fleming of Drouin.

The runners up on the day were the combination team of Les and Mary Firth of Drouin, and Jim Schroeder and Colin McKay of Neerim District.
