Two wins to Longwarry

Both Longwarry teams were at home on Saturday.

Division three had a convincing 42 shot win over Yallourn and division six had a great game with Garfield to get over the line by six shots. Results: Division 3: Longwarry 16/111 defeated Yallourn 4/69:

Simon Counsel, Grant Pask, Ian Peterson and Russell White (skip) were defeated by A Luck’s team 23/24.

Longwarry got off to a good start and were six shots up at the tea break, but after tea lost 14 shots in four ends. They played well for the remainder of the game to just go down by one shot.

Elio Meggetto, Judy Eastwell, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) defeated J Cuthbertso­n’s team 34/13.

Longwarry played well as a team extending the lead throughout the day to score a convincing 21 shot win.

Brian Hennessy, Mark Serong, Wayne Harmes and Kenny White (skip) were defeated by E Whelan’s team 20/21.

In another evenly contested game, Yallourn got out to a fiveshot lead by end 18.

Longwarry struck back to hit the lead with two ends to go but lost the last two ends to lose by one shot in a tight game.

Glenn Pask, Lloyd Maisey, Hank Metselaar, and Slim Eastwell (skip) defeated D Martyn’s team 34/11.

The “D” team were a bit slow out of the blocks to be four shots down after three ends, but after that they totally dominated the game to win by 23 shots and be the King Rink for the day.

Division 6: Longwarry 10/54 defeated Garfield 0/46:

Reg Dunn, Ron Sutton, Eddy Bluck and Brian Mason (skip) defeated D Brick’s team 23/17.

In another even game throughout the day the young and fit Longwarry team managed to score 12 shots in the last six ends to win by six.

Sharon Twite, Laurel Purvis, Eric Peterson and Gerry Wakefield (skip) defeated J Pockling’s team 31/29.

In a high scoring game throughout the day the scores were all tied up with one end to play.

Longwarry managed to get two shots to win by that margin in a great game.

Boss Hogg medal

Longwarry held the prestigiou­s Boss Hogg medal following Saturday’s matches.

The top three place-getter were: 1st Russell White 59 votes (Medallist), 2nd Elio Meggetto 37 votes, 3rd – Slim Eastwell 33 votes.
