Minimal impact on community

-

Night and weekend works will be scheduled for Palmerston St to minimise the impact of road closures on local businesses and community members over the next month.

All road closures will be limited to after hours from 6pm to 6am and weekend works after 1pm on Saturdays.

Access to shops will be maintained during business hours.

Project manager Trevor Reynolds of Mad Cat Constructions said the bulk of the works would be undertaken in the first four weeks.

Mr Reynolds said the success of streetscape works already undertaken by Mad Cat Constructions in Smith St and Mason St was because of communication and keeping everyone engaged.

He said they were keen to have that approach with Palmerston St to ensure minimal impact on businesses and the community.

Footpath paving will occur in stages. No more than 35 metres of footpath will be opened for work on one side of the road at anytime.

Every effort also will be made to minimise the impact on parking.

However, due to the nature of works, Mr Reynolds said there would be the occasional unavoidable requirement to block off isolated carparks.

For the duration of the works Mad Cat Constructions will utilise the Lions Club kiosk in Palmerston St as a site office.

Two car parks immediately adjacent to the kiosk will be occupied for the duration of the works during daytime trading hours to park small plant and materials.
