Donation for technology at Mawarra
West Gippsland Bonsai Group
A warm welcome to all those who are interested in the world of little trees.
The West Gippsland Bonsai Group held their first meeting in January.
The group are a combination of young and old with expertise ranging from skilled traditionalists to beginners, keen to learn in a friendly environment.
One of the more experienced members shared his knowledge on Australian Natives as Bonsai. In the centuries old art of Bonsai, Australian natives are relatively new. A growing number of enthusiasts nationwide are popularising the genre with many suitable Australian natives.
The informative presentation included a display of some admirable specimens including figs, Callistemon, Eucalypt, She Oak and an impressive Banksia.
Interested in learning more about the wonderful craft of Bonsai? Come and enjoy an evening with this small but growing group of enthusiasts at the next meeting on Thursday at 7.30pm, when a demonstration on styling trees will be given.
The meeting will be held in the Science Block, rear of Community College Gippsland, 71 Warragul-Korumburra Road, Warragul. A cuppa and light supper provided.

West Gippsland Diabetes Support Group
The first meeting for this year will be held at 1.30pm on Tuesday next February 20 at the Salvation Army hall, 120 Burke Street, Warragul.
The guest speaker for the day will be nutritionist, Sibilla Johnson. Sibilla is the national trainer from the health deptartment, South Pacific Division, Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Sibilla will be telling us how to keep the largest organ of our body, the skin, healthy.
She will include a food tasting and a short demonstration of making a healthy salad.

Warragul Camera Club
Forty-one club members and seven visitors saw Warragul Camera Club’s monthly competition for the subject “celebrations”.
A total of 51 entries were received and they were judged and appraised by esteemed international professional photographer Paul Robinson BCA.
Following the judging and appraisals Paul gave a captivating visual presentation on the many different portrait photography lighting effects, and then a presentation of world’s great photographers and their notable works.

Creative A grade: 1st Ruth Burleigh, 2nd David Woodcock, 3rd Linda Keagle, HC: Roger Keagle, Linda Keagle. Creative B grade: HC: Nat Peters. Members were each awarded certificates as acknowledgments of their wins.
David Woodcock played his audio-visual presentation, of photographs taken on the recent club outing to the Blue Lotus Water Garden at Yarra Junction.
On Monday February 12, club members attended a special Q&A workshop session, where camera and photography questions were put to a panel for discussion.
The club’s next scheduled photography outing will be in late February 2018 when club members will visit the City of Ballarat for two days and two nights.
The outing includes a special afternoon tutorial and a night field workshop run by wellknown Bendigo photographer Richard Tatti and a morning walk tour guided by Ballarat Historical Society.
Meetings are held the first Monday each month at the Mawarra Workshops. Visitors are welcome.

Warragul Baw Baw Probus
The next meeting of Warragul Baw Baw Probus will be held today.
The guest speaker will be Ashley Murray and she will speak on stroke prevention.
March will be the annual meeting and as the club wind up another successful year of fun and friendship, it is ready to set off with new committee for 2018.
The club have had a most successful 2017 with members participating in numerous day trips, stage shows in Melbourne, visited wonderful local gardens and shared numerous stories of books members have read.
The group have also been entertained by some excellent speakers.
The hightlight of the year was two local young students Annalese and Jarrod who travelled The Kakoda Trail. These two wonderful ambassadors were sponsored and trained for their trek by local businessmen and were received with much enthusiasm. Members were delighted by the passion and dedication of both Annalese and Jarrod who wished to pass on the story of hardship experienced by our diggers on the Kakoda Trail.
If you have just retired or new to the district and you are looking forward to meeting new friends and enjoying some outings, come along as a guest and join.
New members are most welcome. The club meet the second Tuesday of the month at 9.30am. The venue is the Masonic Hall, Korumburra Rd, Warragul.

Drouin Chess Club
The Drouin and District Chess Club have recommenced for 2018.
The club meet at Drouin Senior Citizen Centre, 1 Oak Street on Monday’s from 7pm to 10pm.
As well as accommodating for social games, the chess group is looking to commence a competition to find a Drouin and District Chess Champion in various grades.
People of all ages are welcome to participate in the worldwide sport.
Warragul Rotary Club recently made a donation of $5000 to Warragul disability service provider Mawarra for the purchase of tablet devices for use by clients at the centre.
Mawarra client services manager Mike Lane said the donation allowed the centre to purchase tablet devices for each room and will now allow all clients access to mobile device technology for a range of learning and development activities.
“Support Services at Mawarra cater for over 70 adults with an intellectual disability providing a range of activities on a daily basis.
“Many client activities include a training component whilst others are based around leisure and recreational activities. Connection within the community is encouraged and supported through social and recreational activities, voluntary work and training courses,” Mr Lane said.
Club president Vaughan Fox said Warragul Rotary had been a long time supporter of Mawarra.
He said the current donation of $5000 came from the proceeds of the raffle run as a part of the 2017 Rotary Art Show.
