Coaching event will ensure goals happen
Making things happen will be the focus of an International Women’s Day event being hosted by Women in Gippsland next month.
International Women’s Day will be the perfect stage for celebrating what Gippsland women have achieved and encouraging others to make their own goals happen.
“Making Big and Little Things Happen” will be held at Lardner Park on March 8 between 9.30am and 11.30am.
Women in Gippsland spokesperson and coorganiser of the event Sallie Jones said this year’s event was about women starting with dream, honing their goals and then putting in place a plan to make it happen.
“After last year’s event there was an amazing appetite to do something with the theme Be Bold for Change but there was a sense of not knowing how to do it.
“People can set goals but sometimes they don’t know how to make it happen.
“This can be big or small. It may be a stay at home mum that wants to get fit or it might be someone that wants to run for council.
“It’s about making things happen,” Ms Jones said.
The event will feature a number of coaches who will motivate, inspire and step women through their own road maps.
Women In Gippsland put out a call on social media seeking local coaches to support the event.
Ms Jones said there had been an overwhelming response with more than 20 female coaches responding.
“These women are coaches in business, life, trauma, grief and financial coaches. Just about every box has been ticked,” she said.
Ms Jones said the event will be structured around group advice, with women sitting in small groups with their own coach at each table.
“We hope they will leave the event and make a start on their goals,” she said.
The IWD theme this year is Press for Progress and addressing the pay gap.
To draw awareness to the theme the cost of entry is at a 16 per cent discount which is the average national pay gap.
International Women’s Day provides an opportunity to recognise the achievements of women in society, reflect on the challenges that remain on the path to equality and focus on action to improve gender equality.
This event is for any woman at any stage and is an opportunity to network and meet other Gippsland women.
Tickets are $16.80 (including morning tea) and are available at www.trybooking.com/TYPF
With Warragul CFA attending up to 200 callouts each year, the brigade is on the lookout for more volunteers.
Warragul CFA fourth lieutenant Tim Moss said the brigade, which currently has 38 volunteers, were looking for more people to assist in both operational and non-operational capacities.
“We’re mainly targeting shift workers and people who are retired or semi-retired, people who are available during the day,” he said.
“We need members to be able to put in the time to attend emergencies.
“We attend up to 200 plus callouts per year, and we need more volunteers to help out with incidents.
“We also need volunteers to assist with fundraising, station duties and PR duties such as school visits.”
The brigade train at its headquarters in Gladstone St, Warragul each Monday night from 7.30pm.
“We train for a mixture of bushfire, house fire and other incidents,” Lt Moss said.
“The CFA provide the training, so there are no skills required to become a volunteer firefighter.
“We’ve got a good bunch of people and a good balance with 11 female volunteers and 27 males. “Anyone can join from the age of 16.” Lt Moss said some of the more experienced members in the Warragul CFA had more than 30 years of experience and were ready to pass on their expertise to any newcomers.
Anyone interested in volunteering with the Warragul CFA can phone 5623 1598, email recruitment.warragulcfa@hotmail.com or visit the CFA website.
