Shire grant repairs damaged rail trail

-

The Rokeby to Crossover rail trail has had a makeover thanks to a Baw Baw Shire community development grant.

Work to repair damage to the surface of the rail trail has been completed as part of the grants program.

A minor capital works grant was awarded to the Rokeby and Crossover Friends Group (RCFG) to carry out resurfacing and drainage repair to the four kilometre section of trail that follows the old Warragul to Noojee railway line.

The railway line was originally opened in sections from 1890 to 1919 and closed between 1954 and 1958.

Starting at Rokeby the trail winds its way through native bushland and finishes at the historic Crossover trestle bridge.

Included along the way are signs containing information about local flora and fauna and seats for people to enjoy the serenity of the surrounding bush.

The work conducted as a result of the grant significantly improves the safety and accessibility of the trail which is a popular destination for cyclists, horse riders, runners and walkers.

The reinstatement of drainage will ensure the long term sustainability of the trail.
