Local winners in AGFG awards

Parnassus Function Centre and Steak House and Yarragon’s Sticcado cafe have taken out Australian Good Food and Traveller’s Guide readers choice awards.

Parnassus won the award for best function centre, while Sticcado’s won the award for best cafe.

Parnassus Function Centre event manager Tracy Reed said the business was pleased to win the award in just their third year.

She dedicated the award to all staff at the venue, including kitchen brigade and events team.

“We’ve become number one because we listen and cater for individual needs,” she said. “We’re excited for the region. “It’s all about local for us and our motto is simple food done well. “It’s about promoting the region. “We use local produce and everything at Parnassus is hand made.”

Ms Reed said patrons would soon also be able sample their food in Warragul, with the business soon to come to Danny’s the Venue for dinner onTuesday night and lunches on Thursday.

She said the partnershi­p would allow them to cater for larger wedding bookings, with people soon having the option of getting married at the picturesqu­e venue and using Danny’s the Venue as a reception venue.

Taking out the regional readers choice award, the review of the business noted its picturesqu­e location, along with its modern Australian menu showcasing the best of local produce.

Menu items that rated mentions from AGFG readers included starters such as deep-fried Camembert, double crumbed and served with tomato chilli jam, fresh prawns with garlic and Cointreau cream sauce, mains slow cooked beef, served with roasted vegetables and greens, Scotch fillet steak and butter chicken served with roasted vegetables and greens.

Yarragon’s Sticcado Cafe won the regional readers choice award for best cafe.

Honest food and friendly service by an enthusiast­ic team were noted in its review, along with its cosy environmen­t decked with wood furnishing­s.

Its breakfast menu featuring the likes of French toast with cinnamon sugar and fried eggs with butter spinach and delectable lunch spread with a large range of open sandwiches, share plates and burgers rated mentions from readers, who also noted its popular baked lemon tart.
