Buln Buln (337) vs. Drouin: Drouin’s woes in the top tier of the Warragul District Cricket Associatio­n continued on Saturday as they were forced to chase leather all afternoon; with Buln Buln posting a formidable first innings total of 337.

No doubt buoyed by the news of his selection in the Country Week squad, Rhys Holdsworth struck a fluent century to lead the way for the Lyrebirds, although he wasn’t alone in his run-scoring ways.

Jack Armour (24) and Jack Paull (35) added 53 for the first wicket to set the tone for the afternoon, and the likes of Brent Eastwell, who struck a measured 41, and Bryce Monahan, who concluded the innings with a blistering 69, chimed in with valuable contributi­ons to propel the Buln total upwards.

Simon Gardiner bowled with impressive pace and accuracy in a prolonged spell of bowling (claiming 3-88 from his 20.5 overs) while Brad Glover (2-49) and Dale Weller (274) were also able to make breakthrou­ghs.

However, on the back of some disappoint­ing batting performanc­es in recent weeks, the weight of evidence would suggest that the Hawks will have a hard time chasing down Buln’s target next weekend.

Vela rescues Kangas

Hallora (196) vs. Ellinbank (0-6): Early batting wobbles threatened to turn Hallora’s day into a disastrous one against Ellinbank, but the decision to move James Vela down the order proved to be a masterstro­ke – with the tenacious bat striking a sensationa­l 85 to move his side out of immediate danger.
