Garfield account for Moe teams

Garfield played Moe at home in division five of Saturday pennant, recording two wins and a loss.

Charlie Borg’s team were just down early but drew level on the fifth.

Moe won four of the next five to be up 10/4 on the 10th but Garfield came back strongly to only be down by two at tea.

Although Garfield tried hard they lost to a stronger team on the day going down 15/30.

Bob Lamport’s team lost the first two ends but took lead on the fifth. It was a tight game from there with Garfield getting four ends to Moe’s three game level at 10/10 at the break.

Although Moe tried hard they could not catch Garfield and lost to a stronger team on the day, Garfield winning 31/20.

Les Pumphrey’s team got away to a great start, up 7/0 on the second, and only lost one end before the break and went in at tea 28/3.

Although Moe tried hard they were only able to get four singles from there and lost to a much stronger team on the day with Garfield winning 39/7. Results: Charlie Borg (s), Helene Newton, Ken Newton and Cliff Stephen’s lost to B Rodger’s team 15/30.

Bob Lamport (s), Malcolm Newham, Don Knight and Wes Goodman won 31/20.

Les Pumphrey (s), Graeme Burton, Jim Boucher and Ron Saunders won 39/7.

Tuesday pennant

Garfield travelled to Moe in division three, recording two wins and a draw to win overall.

Two of the Garfield teams were well up early before picked up.

The third team had a tight game going end for end for a while, but Moe drew away midway to force a draw.
