Palmerston St converts to one way traffic
Palmerston St, Warragul is now one-way traffic.
The streetscape works in Palmerston St began last week and are ahead of schedule.
Works last night converted Palmerston St to one-way traffic flow, in an east direction between the Victoria and Queen St roundabouts.
Parking on the south side of Palmerston St has been relocated and switched to accommodate the change in traffic direction.
Traffic management devices also have been installed including waterfilled barriers across the Smith St roundabout exit; directional arrows painted on the road pavement; and variable message boards will advise motorists of the change in direction and alternate routes.
Temporary marking of parking bays also has been undertaken.
Baw Baw Shire said every effort would be made to retain as many car parks during the works, however at times there will be a need to block some car parks to allow works to progress.
The $1.3 million facelift of Palmerston St aims to create a community square type atmosphere.
The final design, developed with extensive consultation with the project reference group and community, aims to create improved safety and accessibility for property owners.
The works have been designed to reinvigorate the retail heart of Warragul with a focus on pedestrian friendly designs and traffic movements.
The works schedule has been designed to minimise the impact on retailers and the community, with all major works to be undertaken between 6pm and 6am each night or on weekends.
