Warragul’s season over after loss

Warragul Bowling Club finished its WGBD pennant season on Saturday with a loss in the division two semi-final.

Warragul had one team winning and three losing in the eventual 81/100 loss.

Division two: Warragul (2) lost to Traralgon (2) 81/100.

Bob Currie’s team got off to a slow start and were 2/6 down after six ends. They added 10 shots over the next four ends to lead 12/6.

The next 11 ends saw the scores see-sawing to be 19/14. Each team scored four shots for a final score of 23/18.

Steve Pallot’s team was down 2/8 after seven ends, but a two and four saw them level it after nine.

There were some big numbers over the next 10 ends; Warragul getting 12 shots but conceding 11. However, Warragul got only two shots to Traralgon’s eight over the last six ends to lose 22/27.

Jim Moyle’s team got jumped to be 0/8 after four ends. They fought back to 13/17 after 15. They won six of the last 10 ends, but they were all singles compared to Traralgon’s seven shots. They lost 19/24.

Necip Akarsu’s team also started slowly to be 1/8 after six ends. They won three of the next seven ends (including a five) to trail 9/15 after 13.

Unfortunat­ely, they lost the next six ends (including a five) to trail 9/31 after 19 ends. To their credit, they won the last six ends but this only amounted to eight shots for a 17/31 loss. Results: Ken Landman, Roy Hammond, David Smith and Jim Moyle lost to Arthur Moore’s team 19/24. Brian Kennedy, Alan McDonnell, Pat Hammond and Bob Currie defeated Graham Cross’ team 23/18. Ron Collins, Matt Smith, Peter Wood and Steve Pallot lost to Gary Talbot’s team 22/27. Kerrie Currie, Des Stephens, Paul Simmons and Necip Akarsu lost to Geoff Cole’s team 17/31.

Championsh­ip fours

The preliminar­y rounds of the club championsh­ip fours have been completed and the final will be played tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2pm.

Ken Landman, Stan Hunt, Mark Hall and Ken Scammell will play Terry Sullivan, Bob Currie, Paul Simmons and Bill Clappers.

Championsh­ip triples

Two rounds of the championsh­ip triples will be played on Sunday. All teams, except Clive Padgham’s team, need to be ready to play by 10am.
