Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Looking forward

-

In response to Karen Green's emotional and irrational response to my letter to the editor last week (Gaz 27/2). Her letter was personally offensive and patronising.

My belief is this forum is for reasonable debate, rather than personal attack. I have looked at the plans for the proposed service centre out of Yarragon. Karen stated it was 'right next to Hazeldean Rd, full of residents' The plan does not indicate this, rather the centre will be located some way along the highway, towards Gordons Rd.

Has she actually looked at the plans? This is zoned farmland, not rural. As we are talking about the same highway that trucks travel on, the noise would remain the same.

EPA pollution? The EPA does not make pollution, it measures it. The document prepared for the council has extensive research indicating minimal impact on local business, indeed it may generate an increase in local business in the future.

I like to have the choice of the petrol I put into my car. A convenience store is not the same as a supermarket. It’s there for convenience especially after hours.

Yarragon Village is just a place name, not a culture. Consider Dingley Village in Melbourne's suburbs. We are a tourist town, very rapidly becoming a dormitory suburb on the peri urban fringes. Please consider Yarragon in the future, looking forward to better things, rather than back to what never really was.

Gwen Hunter, Yarragon Bricks to the couple that decided the stainless steel dog bowl in front of the Drouin Laundromat needed to go to their house instead of the community. Glad you smiled for the camera. For the communities dogs, Not yours.

A huge bouquet to the council for the upgrade to the rotunda in Lyndhurst Square. It is a job well done. Thank you!

Bricks to the person who ignored my "good afternoon" and greeted me with a blank stern face without a word when I visited the Centrelink Office in Warragul on Tuesday 6 February at 11.15am.

Vulnerable people who are compelled to visit your office deserve to be greeted with civility and possibly with a smile, if that is not asking for too much.

Bricks to the low-life(s) that stole plants that had been sold to paying customers and set aside for later collection, from two separate stalls, at the Rokeby Market on Saturday. You ripped off two stall holders.

Bricks to the many, many people who decided to spend Sunday and Monday sight seeing at a bushfire near Mt Worth. You were not only a danger to yourselves but also to fire fighters and the local community. Stay away.
