Tenders to be let for Rollo St reconstruction

-

Baw Baw Shire has delegated authority to chief executive officer Alison Leighton to award a contract for the works, provided the tender is within budget.

Reconstruction of Rollo St, between Princes Hwy and Campbell St is listed in this year’s capital works program.

Preliminary design plans were developed by council’s design consultant and the affected community and stakeholders at Yarragon were provided the design plans for their comments to incorporate them into the final design plans.

Officers reported that most of the feedback was positive which indicated that the existing plane trees along the road should be retained.

The consultation period was extended to address the concerns raised regarding the need to remove these trees.

Officers said there was an asbestos cement water main located along the western edge of the existing road pavement in Rollo St.

“Following extensive discussions with Gippsland Water, an acceptable method of construction for the road pavement adjacent the water main and the offset from the new kerb and channel along the west side of the street was finalised in late January.

“To utilise the prevailing dry weather conditions for the road reconstruction works, the works are required to commence early to complete the works prior to the end of this financial year,” the report said.

Cr Michael Leaney said this project would result in the reconstruction of Rollo St, past the old Yarragon Primary School site.

He said there were trees along the section of road, some of which would be retained.

“We need to get onto this job so if we delegate this to the ceo it can get started.

“This is a positive project for Yarragon,” he said.

Cr Darren Wallace said he travelled the road regularly and “it is in dire need of repair.”
