Hawaii success for Storm Elite
Warragul’s Storm Elite All Stars have taken out a win at the Aloha Spirit Championships in Hawaii.
The cheerleading school took a squad of 19 competitors aged between 10 and 18 years to the championships. The only Australian team to compete, they won first place in the Senior All Girl Level Two division.
Head coach Erica Jan said it was Storm Elite All Star’s first competition overseas.
“We wanted our athletes to not just have a great competition but a great overall experience, so Hawaii seemed like the perfect destination,” said Ms Jan.
The squad were also privileged to be given training time and personal tours at the University of Hawaii.
Ms Jan said the cheerleading school looked forward to future international trips and would set its sights on the Cheerleading World Championships in Florida in coming years.
“We have six teams heading to the Gold Coast in November for our national championships,” said Ms Jan. “After winning multiple national title last year, we received a bid to the International Summit held in Florida at the end of April. However, unfortunately it was just too close to our trip to Hawaii, so we could not accept.”
Asked for highlights of the journey to Hawaii, Ms Jan said it was great to see this group of girls bond and form memories they will hold for the rest of their lives.
“We love that not only is our competitive program great for teaching our athletes team work, commitment and creating friendships built on trust but also provides them life experience opportunities like travel that they might not get to experience otherwise,” she said.
