Divert water

-

The import of 377,000 migrants means we are increasing our population by more than one million people every three years.

The stupidity of our leaders not to recognise the most important thing that has been overlooked is water.

The only prime minister that will ever be remembered for the next 100 years is Bob Menzies because he did the only national project since 1901. Australia has plenty of water, it just happens to be in the wrong places.

We may ignore the diversion from the North Queensland highlands above 2000 feet but sooner or later we will have to divert that water into the top end of the Darling.

This will also remove the additives that are threatening our coral reefs.

What have we got to force our politicians into making the plans to divert that water?

Give $10 million to BHP and $10 million to Rio Tinto and ask them to do the costings of diversion. One in the east and one in the west.

The Fitzroy, the largest river on the wet coast is controlled by Gina Reinhardt, but she doesn’t necessarily own it.

In 1860 we built the telegraph line from Darwin to Adelaide. Do we have to wait until 2061 to divert the Fitzroy south.

The electricity supply at Broome, where the tidal variation is 36 feet would provide all the power needed to bring that water south.

Parliamentarians have a responsibility to the future generations to do something about water. Les Horsfield, Thorpdale
