Golf day raises $25,000

-

More than 120 people teed off in the recent annual charity golf day fundraiser held in Warragul to support West Gippsland Hospital.

The Ambrose team tournament at Warragul Country Club helped to raise $25,250 through an auction of donated goods on the day and the sale of raffle tickets sold in the community over the past few weeks.

Warragul Country Club committee member Maureen Kittelty said it was the fourth year the event had been staged with support from Bendigo Bank and Bendigo Bank Community branches (Neerim, Drouin and Trafalgar) across Baw Baw Shire.

“This year’s proceeds take the total amount raised over four years to $92,500.”

“This is a marvellous result that reflects the community generosity towards our local hospital.

“We are also pleased to include the Warragul and District Specialist School this year to receive a share of raffle ticket sales to help them purchase additional equipment for young people with disabilities.”

Maureen said the committee began the event four years ago with assistance of Bendigo Bank branches across Baw Baw.

“We were blown away by the community support in our first year, raising three times the amount we had hoped for.

“Since then, the event has grown with businesses and individuals donating goods and services for the auction and supporting the community raffle.

“This year’s prizes included vouchers for garden supplies, jewellery, travel, accommodation, farm equipment, outdoor furniture, wine and food”.

West Gippsland Healthcare Group chief executive Dan Weeks and Warragul District Specialist School Principal Matthew Hyde thanked the committee, sponsors and community for their marvellous generosity.

“It is fantastic to see the community spirit,” Mr Weeks said.

“People genuinely want to help the hospital and the specialist school and funds donated will certainly boost the resources we can provide to our community.”
