Open garden for hospital

-

Autumn colours will be showcased during an open garden event on Sunday raising funds for the Neerim District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

Piedmont garden “Tall Timbers” will open to the public. Be entranced by this beautiful garden in all its autumn splendour whilst enjoying live music as well as morning and afternoon tea or a light lunch prepared by the hospital’s ladies guild.

Guild president Jenny Neil said last year’s open garden event was very successful, helping to buy necessary items for the hospital and nursing home. The guild has recently purchased a specialised Princess chair, special air mattresses and kitchen appliances with funds raised.

“We’re very thankful to Manfred and Olwyn, they are very generous in opening their garden for us,” said Ms Neil. “We’d like as many people as possible to come. It’s the most beautiful garden and worth seeing in all seasons.”

“Tall Timbers” at 3560 Yarra Junction-Noojee Rd in Piedmont won the Gardivalia’s Peoples’ Choice Award in 2009.

The natural bush setting includes many exotic trees and shrubs around water features such as a creek, cascade and ponds – the inspiration of owner Olwyn who was the state winner of the ABC Gardener of the Year award.

“Tall Timbers” will be open on Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Entry is $8 with funds supporting the Neerim District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
