Depth on show for Hawks

-

Drouin netballers showed depth in winning all three senior grades as well as the under 17 game against Bairnsdale on Saturday. A grade: Drouin defeated Bairnsdale. Drouin showed great composure and strength in a very physical match.

Ebony Mumford was her usual self, creating pressure and turnovers all day. Rachel Morris was a late inclusion into A grade and her presence and pressure in wing defence was relentless. She is not doubt up to the speed and physicality of A grade.

Ruby Pratt was awarded best on. Her ability to break open the game with fast double plays and strong drives onto circle edge set Drouin up in attack. Her vision into the ring combined with high percentage shooting from Kylie Proctor and Stacie Gardiner to set up Drouin’s good win.

The league had not received final scores.

B grade: Drouin Bairnsdale 45.

Ball speed and angles worked for the Hawks in attack. Always having an option at the top of the circle allowed the goalers to create angles and work together.

Abbey Tyrell came on in the second half and provided strong drives whilst shooting with confidence. Jess Murray played a blinder up in B grade with brilliant defensive pressure.

Chelsea Deriter and Ali McArthur combined beautifully in defence, turning the ball over numerous times. These opportunities were created by 46 defeated Abbey Kingi’s pressure outside the circle.

This game was a fantastic display of teamwork, grit and determination by Drouin who unfortunately went down by 5 goals.

It was a game of high intensity from the first whistle. The Hawks did an exceptional job to stick with Bairnsdale and not allow them to run away with the game.

Under 13s: Drouin 11 Bairnsdale 32.

The Hawks didn’t have their best game this week and, considering the long trip to Bairnsdale, it was not unexpected.

It was the first match of the season that Drouin had their full team. It was great to see what the girls can do with a full side and in tough conditions.

Drouin showed fight and, as always, never dropped their heads or gave up. They played their hearts out.
